For a Trailblazer just trying to keep the Astral Express on schedule, Jarilo-VI feels less like a scenic stop and more like a frozen gauntlet. One minute the crew is dealing with guard captains and endless snow, the next they’re staring down Cocolia, the Supreme Guardian who has traded sensible governance for a monstrous second form. Does anyone actually read the fine print before accepting these trailblazing gigs? Probably not. The good news? Cocolia can be beaten without whaling for the entire character roster. The bad news? She really, really wants to make it personal.

How to Defeat Cocolia (Stage 1)

The first meeting with Cocolia is almost cozy compared to what follows. Her initial form is weak to Lightning, Quantum, and Fire damage, but players should not panic if their party doesn’t cover all three. A well-built team can still chunk through her HP even if the shield remains stubbornly intact. The real trick is saving enough healing for the second act, because Cocolia’s opening performance is just a warm-up. A free-to-play healer like Natasha earns her keep here, especially since the longer battle ahead may drain a considerable amount of healing. Is this fight difficult? Not especially. Does it lull players into a false sense of security? Absolutely.

How to Defeat Cocolia, Mother of Deception

Now the gloves come off, and the Trailblazer is forced into the party. Why? Because the game says so, and because their Fire damage and Preservation path are exactly what the doctor ordered. Players start with the physical Trailblazer, then unlock Preservation mid-battle and gain access to a trial version that may be stronger than whatever they’ve built. Only then can the rest of the squad join in.

A healer is non-negotiable. Cocolia has two enormous health bars and a bad habit of dealing massive damage just when the party starts feeling comfortable. Free-to-play players should look at Serval or Dan Heng, while March 7th works as a shield-spamming wildcard. March’s shield counterattack can turn Cocolia’s aggression into free damage. Who needs a therapist when a pink-haired girl with a giant bow can punish enemies for hitting her friends?

During the first fight, the party gains access to the Engine of Creation, a giant mechanical friend that charges as characters use basic attacks and skills. It works like Path Resonance in Simulated Universe: fill the bar, press the button, and enjoy the fireworks. It should be triggered as soon as it’s ready, every single time. Cocolia also summons Lances of Eternal Freeze, and these icy spears temporarily disable her weaknesses. That means players can’t even scratch her shield until the lances are destroyed. So the priority is simple: burn the lances, then burn Cocolia. Fire characters are perfect for this. The Trailblazer’s ultimate deals wide Fire damage and can taunt Cocolia with their shield skill, making them the budget MVP. In Echo of War repeats, the Engine of Creation is available from the start, so players can and should mash that button often. Does it trivialize the fight? Not quite, but it makes the ice lances significantly less annoying.

Cocolia, Mother of Deception’s Skillset

Her kit can be summarized as an enormous HP sponge, frosty lances, and enough damage to make unprepared healers weep. The Lances of Eternal Freeze are the real priority because they turn off her weaknesses until cleared. Once the lances vanish, Lightning, Quantum, and Fire attackers can get back to shredding her shield. Add in two health bars and some heavy hits, and this fight becomes less about speed and more about survival.

Best Party Compositions

For the dream team, an ideal setup is Trailblazer, Seele, Bailu, and Jing Yuan. Trailblazer taunts and delivers Fire AoE, Jing Yuan brings Lightning and crowd-clearing damage, Seele deletes single targets with Quantum damage, and Bailu keeps everyone alive. In Echo of War, players can borrow a friend’s Jing Yuan as a support unit. Is this team realistic? Only if the gacha gods smiled kindly.

Role Dream Team F2P Heroes
Fire/Shield breaker Trailblazer (Fire Preservation) Trailblazer
Damage dealer Jing Yuan / Seele Serval / Dan Heng
Healer Bailu Natasha
Shielder/Support March 7th or Trailblazer March 7th

For mere mortals, the more plausible squad is Trailblazer, Serval, Natasha, and/or Dan Heng. Trailblazer and Serval can damage Cocolia’s shield, Dan Heng clears ice lances quickly, and Natasha provides the healing that stops everyone from becoming a popsicle. If the party’s level is near the recommended range, shielding and healing matter far more than flashy damage.

With patience, healing, and a willingness to smash that Engine of Creation button, Cocolia, Mother of Deception will eventually topple. She is a damage sponge, and the first story encounter can become a war of attrition. If the Echo of War version starts feeling too simple, players can raise the difficulty before engaging. Even in 2026, this fight may no longer be the absolute hardest content in Honkai: Star Rail, but it remains a classic lesson in not getting frozen mid-rotation.
